Rifle System Set-up Course

This two day course will give the shooter an understanding of ballistics and what is happening to the bullet during its stages of flight. Additionally how to obtain a proper zero, how to true for muzzle velocity and use of ballistic engines will be covered. This course is designed for all skill levels. Training will be for 16 hours and a Field Completion Certificate will be awarded at the end of the course. A version of this class will be available for civilian shooters.

The course will be broken up between classroom lecture and range time. The instructor will cover a block of instruction and then the shooters will move to the firing line and execute the practical portion.

What we cover:

Rifle set up, fitting of the rifle, optics and reticles, proper mounting of the scope.

Define parallax and how to remove it.

Maintenance of the rifle and optic

Define milradians, True minute of Angle (TMOA) and Shooter Minute of Angle (SMOA) and how to convert between them.

Ballistic overview covering internal, external and terminal ballistics and what effects them. 3 stages of flight and how to calculate them. Environmental factors that influence the flight of the bullet and how to true muzzle velocity.

Use of ballistic engines
